Initially work consisted of my first responses and impressions and if I have often adhered to the fact, it has been to provide a base for evolution towards a more conceptual approach as I become removed from immediate impressions by time. The challenge now is to integrate my Antarctic experiences with other influences. I am presently working upon a series relating two disparate environments that show formal similarities. The random geometry of ice, thrown against the shore, by wind and storm jagged shards, contrasting with uncannily regular triangles and cubes framing sea and sky. The regular, solid blocks of concrete exhibit monumentality, independent of their function of holding back the sea and protecting the airport on the south coast. The latter appears as a stylized version of the former.
