And also, check about especially Operating Voltage and paper feed mechanisms in part. And this manual is translating all of by used SAT-1000JE Mk I Automatic Translation Machine completely. |

2. Hard PartsThis Automatic Translation Machine Model SAT-1000JE Mk I consists of the following pieces (please referring to picture):

3. Make OperationsStep OneOpen packing of box surrounding Automatic Translation Machine Model SAT-1000JE Mk I and to remove carefully with skill from box. Set upon base near power input socket plug area. Do not let fall down heavily. !!! Check power input specification switch on back panel is right for your power input specification. This is necessary for real operation and also safe. !!! Insert into feed paper tray socket slot on back panel paper input tray. Insert into feed paper tray socket slot on back panel paper out tray. Connect power cord to power socket of yourpower and the also socket of Automatic Translation Machine Model SAT-1000JE Mk I socket plug. Step TwoPush the "ON" part of the On-Off switch (power) on the front panel. Wait two or some seconds and unless "pii pii" sound is being then Ready Light lamp will light "on" and Automatic Translation Machine Model SAT-1000JE Mk I is ok. !!! IF "PII PII" SOUND Push the "OFF" part of the On-Off switch (power) on the front panel. Looking at all paper feed parts and power specification switch then again to "ON". If not ok then call experience serviceman or after check "TROUBLESHOOT" sheet attach. !!!

4. Using OperationsAfter to check all Making operations is ok then using is easy. Step OnePlace Japanese (KANJI letters or furigana letters or both only) written paper into top (input) slot of top panel for feeding in. Step TwoPush the "START" part to Start/Stop (paper feed) switch and then wait for Push the "START" part to Start/Stop (paper feed) switch and then wait paper feed into the Automatic Translation Machine Model SAT-1000JE Mk I paper slot. Soon. Paper will feed out top (out) slot after a few (40 or 50 approx.) seconds. But a Translation part will feed out into back panel paper out of tray. Since translating time is not-so-fast please be patience for during short while or little longer. But if translation time more than over two minutes (120 seconds) then Automatic Translation Machine Model SAT-1000JE Mk I may be stop and you reset it sometime to stop wait (by push RESET switch on Front Panel). If paper feed (execute) fail light is becomingon then check back panel paper feed input tray and change paper and push reset and repeat again after. Step ThreeAfter finish all daily use of Automatic Translation Machine Model SAT-1000JE Mk I to be surely switch to "OFF" side the Front Panel "ON/OFF" (power) switch. |

Notice of upgrade of Automatic Translation Machine Model SAT-1000JE Mk I to Model SAT-1000JE Mk Ia.
Please be advised that the model you have purchased has been upgraded from the original SAT-1000JE Mk I specifications. In line with this upgrade, the model number has been changed from SAT-1000JE Mk I to SAT-1000JE Mk Ia. This can be confirmed by inspecting the model number inscribed on the name-plate on the back panel of the machine.
If you are already the owner of an SAT-1000JE Mk I machine, you will be able to obtain the upgrade for a nominal charge.
March 1999: Unlikely as it may sound, in the years since the Web version of this story appeared in 1995, many people (including, apparently, New Scientist), have taken it for the Real Thing. Flattering though this may be to my prescience when I wrote it back in 1988, I am perforce moved to add this footnote:
This is a work of fiction. Any resemblance, in whole or in part, to any automatic translation machine, living or dead, functional or non-, past, present or future, is entirely coincidental. Or it could be convergence. Or perhaps one of the manufacturers is ripping off my ideas. Hell, in an alternate universe, maybe it does exist!
